Jack and Jill Cross Examination

Q: So Jack, your friend Jill here went with you when you got water for your mother, correct?

J: Yes, she did.

Q: Would you tell me precisely what happened?

J: No.

Q: What! Why not?

J: Why should I?

Q: Because I told you to.

J: Fine, if I have too.  When we went up the hill to the well, I tripped on a root from the near by tree and ended up tumbling down the hill, with Jill right behind me.  Happy?

Q: Not really.  I will be happy when you tell me how you broke your crown.

J: How am I supposed to know, I didn't mean to, and even if I did, I would never tell you.

Q: WHY NOT!  I asked you nicely!

J: No you didn't!  And I NEVER BROKE THE CROWN!  I already told you that!

Jill: No, he didn't break the crown, the ground did.

Q: Ok, I believe you.  Did you ever get water in the bucket?

J: No, we fell before we ever got to the top of the hill.  I already told you that.

Q: Did you ever try after going to the top again on that day?

J: No, I was busy trying to clean up the crown.

Q: Did the bucket break on the way down?

J: No.

Q: Thank you for your cooperation.  You may leave now.

J: Finally.  I hope I never see you again.

Q: Bye
